Blood, Power, and the Thar SUV: BJP MLA Pritam Lodhi and Son Under Fire for Strongman Tactics in Shivpuri

A speeding Thar SUV driven by Dinesh Lodhi, son of BJP MLA Pritam Lodhi, has sparked a major controversy in Shivpuri. After allegedly hitting five people, the MLA has transitioned from claiming accountability to openly threatening IPS officer Ayush Jakhar. The incident revives the documented criminal history of the Pichhore MLA, exposing a legacy of intimidation, murder charges, and political power.

A harrowing road accident in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, has evolved into a volatile confrontation between legislative power and law enforcement, resurrecting the notorious legacy of a regional strongman. The crisis began on the morning of April 16 at approximately 7:30 am when Dinesh Lodhi, the son of BJP MLA from Pichhore, Pritam Lodhi, allegedly drove a speeding Thar SUV into five people directly in front of the Karera police station. Witnesses describe a chilling scene where Dinesh Lodhi casually abandoned the vehicle to walk to a gym 500 meters away, reportedly issuing a defiant warning to arriving officers by stating, "Go away, I will handle the Station In-charge," and boasting that his father’s status as an MLA could manage even a murder case.

The initial aftermath saw MLA Pritam Lodhi project an image of accountability, asserting that "the public comes first" and claiming he had personally directed the police to register an FIR. However, this stance has undergone a dramatic U-turn as the MLA now openly threatens police personnel. In a direct challenge to IPS officer and Karera SDOP Ayush Jakhar, Lodhi demanded the officer "look at our history," a statement that has cast a harsh light on a documented criminal record. According to his election affidavit, Pritam Lodhi faces nine registered cases spanning 28 sections of law, including three murder accusations under Section 302 and attempt to murder under Section 307. His history includes a district externment order and a 2012 record featuring 34 cases involving rioting, conspiracy to commit dacoity, and assault.

This pattern of confrontation is deeply rooted, dating back nearly two decades to allegations that Lodhi stormed the Hazira police outpost in Gwalior and assaulted personnel, including then-in-charge Surendra Chauhan. Once a close associate of senior BJP leader Uma Bharti, the Jalalpur native built influence through local wrestling tournaments and networks, though his reputation often made him a primary person of interest for police following regional crimes. Despite being expelled from the BJP in 2022 for derogatory remarks against Brahmins and religious preachers, he was re-inducted for the 2023 elections. The legacy of intimidation now extends to his son, Dinesh Lodhi, whose own record includes a 2023 criminal intimidation case, a 2024 attempt to run over neighbors in Gwalior, and allegations of extortion involving crores of rupees.

The current friction follows a controversial and unprecedented move in January last year, where Pritam Lodhi attempted to appoint "MLA representatives" within police stations—a clear interference in policing that was rolled back only after public outrage. By invoking his violent "history" to intimidate SDOP Ayush Jakhar with the remark, "Does Karera belong to your 'Daddy'?", Pritam Lodhi has signaled a return to the strongman tactics that have long defined his career. This escalation highlights a profound tension between the rule of law and the influence of a political family whose history is as much a matter of police records as it is of legislative authority.
